A true blacktail from near the coast.

Eel is that the buck that comes in from the brush onto your backyard orchard? If it is, you know mama is not going to let you shoot it.

Don’t know a thing about Blacktail deer but that one is a beauty. When it comes to size and symmetry this one looks nearly perfect. Hope he’s sharing your neighborhood.

Thanks for sharing.

It's on a friend's property. His wife won't let him shoot it either but he's trying to talk her into letting their son shoot it. He's 14 and has a tag. Bucks like that usually disappear during season so I bet nobody gets it. They haven't seen it since archery opened.

Usually as soon as they strip their velvet they disappear to some thick area and wait it out there until rut starts. Hope your friends son gets a chance at him.

I have a 155" muley that looks a little wider maybe, but otherwise very similar. Id say he might be 150". As some have said, not a blacktail to pass on...

Thanks for sharing.!

Hard to compare width between a muley and blacktail. That buck is probably only 22-23 inches wide even though he's past his ears a bit. I'd say he's a 150 buck. True blacktails never floated my boat. I hope the kid gets to kill it as well.

Very cool....and he's got a huge body. That is a great deer. Tell us the score when you get it.

I don’t know what a monster blacktail looks like but I sure like the looks of that one. Wish that was your tag on him eelgrass!!

I swear 90% of Cali bucks posted on SM are
in violation of the first legal requirement.
Is it really a big deal if a hunter snaps a few pics before putting the tag on the animal? I do it all the time....just not in California. I haven't shot a buck here in 20 years.

Not amongst friends. But when you’re posting on SM to the masses… first mistake is that. But I won’t ruin/hijack the thread for a totally different topic. Quality buck for sure, not killed by the OP.

lol…..I couldn’t care less if there is a tag on that deer….I was simply commenting on Lumpy’s comment about “too bad eel‘s tag wasn’t on it”…..

I wasn’t pointing anything out legally……I seriously doubt the guy didn’t have a punched tag. Pics are better without the tag showing.

Nah, I wouldn't even have known about that buck if my friend hadn't told me about it. There's too much pressure and drama when you kill a buck like that anyway. :)
