Zion Unit Mule Deer

Drew a Zion Muzzle tag for deer. I have never hunted the unit but have spent time around it and have already done some scouting, finding deer, learning areas and roads. Are the deer going to start migrating during the muzzleloader hunt? Will they be high, mid or low elevation? If I find a deer I want to hunt in August will it still be there or is it best to get a lay of the land now and scout hard a couple weeks before the hunt? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most of your bucks will be dead off HWY 14 ran over by tourists, or pushed deep into private. Tough/frustrating unit to hunt. It's thick on top and bucks move onto private once pressure starts. During muzzy I would be looking in the desert off the far south end.

Lots of private to contend with and lots of hunters to contend with as well. Start high.
Go scout prior to the archery hunt start and keep tabs during and throughout the archery hunt. Bucks will be in the same area for the first few days of the muzzleloader before the pressure pushes them out of the area.

Saw this one this evening

Thanks for the info. When you say south, like Colorado city or the sands over toward Kanab? Nice buck. Most all of the bucks I’ve seen so far on this unit are with does.. Is this normal for this unit? Do they not hang in bachelor groups?

Almost got in a head on with a side x side today up there. Duck Creek rents them and idiots drive them like idiots. The roads were pounded to flour dust. Looking ugly as far as animals. Need the monsoons.

Sure was/is a mess in front of the True Value store today.
I agree that some rain is desperately needed up there

I didn't notice any I wasn't real close to Cascade Falls, but wouldn't surprise me. People everywhere, dry as I've ever seen it.

On second thought that could be smoke The cascade falls parking lot is between the two breaks on the right

Hard unit for a decent buck and lots of private and tags (tag numbers cut this year so maybe less hunters).

The fires is the other side of 89 and there was a fire closer to virgin Utah but it’s out.
