Because of the amount of public land or other reasons? In short, yes. That said I'd rather have the 3/301 tag myself. Good luck!
Gotcha thanks.Don't get me wrong, anybody willing to put in even a half assed effort will kill a buck in either area. I just like the predictability better in the NW units aside from a ton of road hunter the first weekend. Big bucks can stage up on private in either unit, but I think that's more likely in 80. I also think the quality in 3/301 is underrated.
Hunted unit 80 in ‘21for antelope- terrible unit, beyond belief ! Could not be paid to go back there. One of the worst units I’ve ever been it.Gotcha thanks.

No trolling here- area 80 is terrible- should be closed down for about 5 straight years. CPW In Monte Vista agreed with my assessment when I visited with them. I was shocked at the lack ofI don't know if Jerry is trolling us or not, but what I do know is that I haven't seen or heard anything positive about the antelope situation in the SLV in a long time.
If you wind up drawing it I think you'll have your work cut out for you.
I’ve hunted antelope since ‘78 , many times, many states, I know how to hunt them. This unit 80 was just a lousy area at this time . I’m sure it can be rehabbed , just really down right now. Likely caused by droughts, winter kills, predators, many reasons. I report it as it happens. And as I see it. No BS.No trolling here- area 80 is terrible- should be closed down for about 5 straight years. CPW In Monte Vista agreed with my assessment when I visited with them. I was shocked at the lack of
antelope overall. Hunted public lands intensely
full season- big zero !

Thanks for the info. Definitely Going to scratch it of my short listI've recently heard the same thing about 80 specifically from local folks I know. None of those units are what they were 20 years ago. I drew 81 in 2015 and wound up turning the tag back in. The story I got is that they've issued too many doe landowner tags in the SLV overall.
It was really good in the SLV back in those days. I got this buck in Unit 82 in 1997.Man I was in 80 in 1998 and saw very good antelope numbers on public, large herds, and some really nice bucks. Sad to hear it has gone belly up. Probably happened slowly, them quickly, but hopefully somebody in charge remembers the way it was and is doing something to get it back. 1998 really is not THAT long ago, and unless the habitat is developed, there SHOULD be antelope on it.
