I drew a Wasatch muzzleloader elk tag. If any one would be willing to share any info on that unit please PM me. Thanks
Thanks I appreciate itCongrats on the tag - it is a great time to be hunting elk and the bulls should be actively rutting and bugling. Use that to your advantage - I don't call back much anymore and just move in with good wind on vocal elk. If it is dry, you might also focus on water sources.
The unit is big, but there are a lot of elk in most areas - spend some time scouting and focus on areas you know well. It will be a good hunt if you put in some effort.
Nonresident 6 points in random drawCongratulations, you got my tag. Mind sharing how many points you had? Resident or NR
Thanks I will do thatIf you haven't already, check out the DWR hunt planner, it has great info for that unit. You won't have any problem, finding Elk, just have to be persistent to find a big one.
Super curious to see how the tag shifts affected max point holders. Guys I expected to draw didn’t.Congratulations, you got my tag. Mind sharing how many points you had? Resident or NR
It bumped my dad out of the bonus pool when before they re-arranged the tag numbers I was sure he would draw. After they did that I wasn't as positive.Super curious to see how the tag shifts affected max point holders. Guys I expected to draw didn’t.
Sorry for the dumb question, but can you elaborate on "tag shifts"? I guess I wasn't aware there was any type of change. I thought Utah was going to allocate a higher % of tags to the bonus point round this year but would have assumed that was going to help folks.Super curious to see how the tag shifts affected max point holders. The overall tag numbers stayed the same but they pulled tags from archery, early rifle, and muzzleloader and put them into the mid and late rifle hunts.Sorry for the dumb question, but can you elaborate on "tag shifts"? I thought they were considering switching 60% of the tags going to bonus points. Maybe I dreamed that....or maybe I'm thinking of another state considering that change?Where did you hear they was going to allocate a higher % of tags to the bonus pool?
Its always been a 50/50 split, and I have never herd any serious discussion about the topic.
Very helpful....thank youThe overall tag numbers stayed the same but they pulled tags from archery, early rifle, and muzzleloader and put them into the mid and late rifle hunts.

Really nice bull congratulationsI had the hunt last year, and was into insane rut action. I passed 30 bulls before killing mine, and had seen a 350”, and a 360”-370” opening morning that I couldn’t turn up again. If I had the tag again, I would hunt it a little different, but I’m not upset with the outcome. I did know of around 10 different tag holders though, and only a few of us killed bulls. The other 2 bulls I know of were killed in the same drainage as mine. Not sure where or exactly why the other groups were struggling so much.

ThanksYou're in for a great hunt!!
Bulls will be screaming but you may have to go in after them, they can be shy after the rifle hunt.
That’s one of the better bulls I have seen a picture of from the unit. Did the others just pass elk or didn’t get into them?I had the hunt last year, and was into insane rut action. Now that you say that I do think the division was considering making that proposal, but I think the back lash was pretty significant and it was never officially brought up.I thought they were considering switching 60% of the tags going to bonus points. Sorry for the late response, but the other guys couldn’t get into them. They were all saying that they were willing to shoot anything by the end of their hunt. That’s one of the better bulls I have seen a picture of from the unit. Did the others just pass elk or didn’t get into them?
Currant Creek Reservoir and Strawberry ReservoirI'm chasing those Wasatch bulls this fall as well, super excited. Drew a Premium (NR) tag so setting up for the long haul . First scouting trip over July 4th . Taking my canoe along to do some fishing during down times. Any suggestions on good trout lakes ?

I have been up there the last few weeks with the mid season elk, spike elk and archery hunting and rifle deer hunt. I can honestly say i saw way less elk this year than I did last year. All those areas you just listed is where I like to hang out. And after looking over lots of areas this last weekend in those listed areas, there was not 1 elk spotted. Doesnt mean they were not there, I just did not see them. You may want to check out Wildcat and around Current creek. I dont normally hunt over there, but last year a friend had the late elk tag and saw lots of elk over there....just a suggestion.Hi! great thread. Emailed you Buglelk, pming you shortly elkhunter4.
new here and new to hunting. going up to wasatch near strawberry ridge/first water/fifth water/sheep creek area Nov 01 - Nov 09th. can use all the help i can get to get in on some elk...
Maybe slow down and use your glass?I went from tuesday through sunday. hiked almost 50 miles to see 5 elk. no bulls at all. looks like my spike tag is going unfilled unless i can find somewhere close to ogden (cache?) to fill it between now and thursday (fat chance.. )
we looked everywhere from 1st water to 5th water, to strawberry ridge, and even went to the north side of strawberry. no luck.
