New bucks showing up in our area today. The does have been here all summer, now the dudes are arriving. Got 2 more tags to fill. There are some dandy bucks here now, it’ll be interesting to see if we can keep from hanging tags on a couple of meet bucks, lol.

I’m in 48 and I’m trying to find an elk so I haven’t been specifically targeting deer areas(of course based on the amount of elk I’ve seen, I’m not really targeting elk areas either), but as for deer I’ve seen zero signs of rutting, all does have been alone from what I could tell and smaller bucks still together.

From what I've noticed in Colo is that mature bucks tend to hide out considerably during daylight hours in OTC elk and other units where there is considerable hunting pressure. Younger bucks may be found with does during daylight hours but mature bucks are generally a lot more cautious. In units with lower elk hunter numbers mature bucks or near private land, etc where there is less hunting pressure the mature bucks may hang out longer into daylight hours.

I believe there is a full moon or close to full moon during the 3rd season this year. If there is warm temps, full moon, crunchy snow,etc it may still be tough conditions even though the season dates are later.

With that said, I saw pretty decent rut activity starting around Oct 28 in a unit with limited elk hunters.

I saw multiple bucks acting rutty during 2nd season. Most bucks didn’t show interest in does but I did watch a couple mature bucks sniffing and following does. I watch one mature buck earlier this week that was locked onto a single doe and followed her for a couple hours.

Small bucks are rutting. Big bucks are most likely too, but they are not showing themselves during daylight. They seem to be close by hiding in the trees. Jumped a mature buck on the edge of a meadow where dozens of small bucks were rutting. He was by himself. Every bigger buck we have seen has been by themselves, unless they are on private.

The bucks here are swollen up and at least with the does now
The buck we killed yesterday was ready but I don’t think the does he was with are yet

They were checking doe groups in the mornings just about all of second season where we hunted in south central CO. The bigger bucks slipped back into the timber relatively soon when the realized nobody was in estrus yet, but the little guys stayed out longer sparring and sniffing around. Didn’t see any big deer messing with does in the evenings.

Nope! He was looking for a more mature buck and never found one. He saw a handful of young deer.

saw a medium 4 point lip curling, sniffing around a herd of 6 doe on saturday around 4pm. weather is not looking good for moving deer around this 3rd season in NW Co, but if you find does i think bucks will be around
