Archery deer any thing dropping

My friends are hunting pine valley right now. They have hunted it 3 times in the last 5 years. They say it is terrible. They are seeing 1/4 the deer they seen just a few years ago.

IT was a great opener this year. We chased a very nice 4 point, 25" with deep forks all day saturday. We, we didnt chase, but waited him out in a few of his spots, to not be seen Saturday. Saw him on Friday morning, 100 yards off the main road, LOL! But the rest of the time, we spent watching and going after lots of deer. LOts and lots of 2 points and 3 points and handful of small 4 points. It was a blast. Lots of does and fawns too.

Was this Pine Valley or elsewhere?

Care to share which unit? You don’t have to give exact gps coordinates but it would be nice to know which units are doing good and which ones suck.

Never seen Southern Utah units this bad. Was hopeful with the rain it would be decent. Seen one buck bigger than a two point. Buddies up on Nebo and Manti are having great hunts so far.

It's good to hear some positive news. I think you could have the best deer numbers ever and some folks will just be in the wrong place at the wrong time and tell you how bad it is. Vice-Versa you can have some of the worst numbers and some hunters will just happen to be in the right place/time and have a great hunt. Sometimes no matter what you do luck is a big factor whether it's for good or bad.

I’ll take the coordinates, thanks in advance

You guys are all gonna laugh at me, but we were honestly road hunting in 1 of the wasatch units. I pulled off one of my pet peeves and road hunted and saw plenty of deer, lol. I was shocked. We usually hike in a long ways. And yes, last year we saw 11 bucks opening morning where we hiked in. But my son plays football at Orem and we got to camp at midnight, and didnt want to wake up at 3:30 am to get to our normal spot.

I've been hearing similar positive reports from Central units north. Good to hear there are some deer around up there. Southwestern part of the state is tough

Noway weird people live out there, even if there was a 230" typical tied up out there I would send my brother in law to shoot it.

It sucks when the biggest buck is a two point.

I just got word that one of my "wolfpack" buddies killed another 200"+ buck last night. That's 3 in the past 5 years for him. Six years ago he killed a 196" buck. All public land, general season bucks. Sorry no pictures.
On another note, I was out on the opener Saturday helping spot for a friend and I saw one group of mature bucks but what I was most happy to see, was several does with a couple fawns tagging along.

I need to update this post. His buck only scored about 190". ? But it had crazy mass, in the mid 40s. It sure looked like a 200" buck to me but not bad for running out and killing a buck like that after work before dark.

Pics? What unit I heard a 40 got killed on the cache unable to confirm

Not many dropping unless dying miles away from where shot counts.. Also many now with arrow wounds. Lots of first hand conversations of "the wounded" with different people the last two weeks. Seems the new slogan to live by for archers is
"You miss every shot you don't take"

BS

The buck alive has a much grayer cape. Looks taller, heavier. Maybe just the pics? Nice buck Jake. Did you load him whole?
I think you are right, I wasn't with him when they found him that morning and got an arrow in him, I got up there mid day to help track, and we ended up killing him that evening.

The live pictures are of a buck we went after earlier in the week. I was told it was the same buck and never really got a great look at him while trying to get him killed, and didn't scrutinized the pictures but it's definitely different deer, dang close but definitely different.

Good eye wiffy, I hadn't payed attention to the difference till you said that.

The live buck is definitely taller, but the dead buck is a bit wider, and longer beams. I bet score wise they are pretty comparable.

He died next to a road so yes we loaded him whole.

Same genes no doubt. Neat buck. Thanks for sharing!
