Moose load 300 win

Any thoughts on moose load
300 win mag , I use 200 gr for elk swift a frame
I see nosler has 220 grain partition
Any opinions on if I should work up a load ?

Been on a lot of moose hunts, they are no tougher than elk, probably less tough. No need to go with a heavier bullet unless you like to tinker with stuff.

Of course I like to tinker
Maybe I’ll work up a 220 grain load
Then go back to using the 200 grain elk load. That’s probably the best idea
Stick with the elk load. I have allot of confidence in that load/rifle combination.
but it’s fun to think about hunting moose
I didn’t think I would ever draw a tag
It was a total shock

Congrats Your 300 with the elk load is MORE than ample for any moose. Stick it in the right place, and break out the packs!!

.280 Ackley with 166gr ATip killed an old bull flawlessly. OH MY! Did that guy really just say he shot a moose with a Match Target Bullet? Yes he did....

The first animal i ever saw killed was a moose with a .243. It was intended to shoot it with a bow, but was also during a rifle deer hunt. Couldn't get quite in bow range and time was up, so out came the .243. Dead moose. Wouldn't recommend it, even at 70 yards, but like others have said, you don't need to go crazy heavy. I killed my moose with a 180 grain accubond out of .300 win mag.

My first moose was with a 210 partition from a 338 Win mag.
Since then I've used a 300 H&H with a 180 partition, a Canadian moose with a 300 Win using 180 Fail Safe and the last with a sharp stick! All took just 1 shot to do the job.
Like others said, hit 'em right with a descent bullet and break out the packs!

I think a Shiras moose is quite thin in the chest but pretty tall and it doesn’t take a huge bullet to get a pass through. I was alone when I shot mine and it was pretty comical trying to get him to lay on his back for field dressing, damn near impossible.

I shot my Wyoming moose last year with a Nosler 180 grain Accubond out of a 300 Win Mag. Moose didnt go 2 steps and fell over dead. That might be because I blew his heart in half.

Congrats mdbrown on drawing a MT moose tag! You'll have the time of your life and you won't believe the number of great folks that will come out of the woodworks to help out a fellow hunter on a moose tag! Several guys provided me with great advice and intel on moose and it paid off. I drew a MT moose tag last year and had an outstanding time. I got my bull with my first rifle, a Browning A-Bolt 30-06 using a 180gr. Nosler Partition bullet. Most folks on here have way more experience at chasing moose than I do and I would reach out to them and pick their brain. Congrats again and wishing you the best of luck and success on tagging a big ol' Shiras!!!

Used a 200 grain Hornady ELDX in my 300 HH a couple years ago on a Canadian moose. Worked fine.

Have killed 3 Shiras bulls myself, with bow, muzzy, and rifle. They die easy when poked in the right spot. Have taken another 12-15 people for theirs here in Idaho, and even the bad shot ones only go a couple hundred yards and bed down. Nothing like a poorly shot bull elk; they want distance between them and what hurt them!!!

I watched one take a 200 gr hornady eldx from a .300 WM to the head once. It’s face hit the ground before it’s body did. Probably any .300 WM round will work just fine on them.

A moose heart is the size of a milk jug. Put any size hole in it and he won’t go far at all.
Like Blank said, they’re not nearly as tough as an elk.

I kept the heart from my bull last year and it was the size of a regulation football! The moose heart makes for a very large target...

Nice shot young lady.
This is what I’m talking about. I watched my dad at 72 years old put two holes through a moose heart at 250 yards with a 130: grain corelokt from his open sight 270, standing up shooting offhand and the only reason he shot twice was because I was screaming in his ear to shoot it again.
a well placed shot trumps caliber every time.
