Where to go for a euro mount?

My son shot this buck and I thought it would be cool to euro it. Does anyone know of someone who does that in the Weiser area? Or treasure valley area for that matter not just Weiser. It wasnt super wide at just under 28" but had nice deep forks and another drop tine you cant see in the pictures which gave it some real neat character. He broke one eye guard off. We left the house for an evening hunt thinking we would only be gone a couple hours. Well that is all it took I guess. Thank you.

It's actually a pretty easy process to do on your own. You'll get find results DIY, too.

Skin off the skull, pull the jaw of course, and pop the eyes. Then keep it in water until you're ready to simmer.

Add dish soap and borax to the simmer mixture and check it about every hour for the first 2.5-3.5. Once the tissues wrapping the skull start to pop and pull apart, you can use pliers or just a wire brush to remove the tissue you can. Then back in the pot and check on it about every 30 minutes. Repeat until clean.

Just watch the nose. The cartilage holding the nose on gets soft and pliable, and if you over cook the skull, you can lose the nose.

Lots of good YouTube videos on the process as well.

PM me if you want to discuss.

If you can’t find anyone, look up some of the videos from Whitebone Creations on YouTube. That’s the method I follow and it works well. All 6 of my elk and a few deer have turned out great....and it’s cheap...so I can continue to afford the tags!

Once you get the skull clean, use a solution of Magnesium powder and peroxide made into a milkshake texture. Brush it on and let dry, then rinse off.

id suggest not boiling the skull at all. i use maceration and they come out museum quality. i have 3 skulls going right now. boil it and it will weaken the bone, lose nasal bones and eventually start to yellow. google it. its really easy, really nasty too but worth it

JPicket- do you have issues losing teeth during the maceration process? All my deadheads I macerate, and I macerated my bull this year about halfway before boiling.

I macerated a sheep skull after I popped the horns, and lost a couple of the front teeth

the teeth are probably going to fall out. i sift them out of the goo and glue them back in. with the smaller skulls (bobcat coyote, badger) i macerate them in a mesh bag so i have less nastiness to deal with

problem with boiling or any heat at all (simmer) is you end up cooking the grease into the bone so you'll never truly get it de greased and one day t will start to yellow. also the bone comes out so much better with maceration. i don't know how many people have asked me if a skull is plastic. comes out really hard
