I’m new to the forum! Been a lurker for years!

So here goes......

Someone turned in their late season manti elk tag and my dad got a call!

Not looking for honey holes but a little help would be nice!

I wanna get him a 400” bull but a 380 will do!

Anyone seeing any?

Got any tied up that I could pay a small finders fee in beer?!

I ain’t got time to scout and dad is 74!

Hoping to land a couple good leads from the arm chair this next week and put him on a stud!

Gonna be his last LE hoorah!

Any help would be appreciated as I have never killed an elk before and neither has he!

BT--that was good. But you could have added he is law enforcement/veteran with glaucoma and a facial tic.

Haha! You forgot to mention that he's a veteran and you are just back from deployment which is why you don't have time to scout. Also you've had a rough year because your mom is sick, which is extra hard on your dad. And you had a broken leg. And so did your kid. And your dog. And your wife lost her job or is divorcing you. You pick. :)
I saw a good bull here, these coordinates should help, you might see a few other people around but if you get out of your rig you should be able to see some animals here, trust me.

“ you should call the biologist”
“ why would you get a tag in a unit you don’t know”
“Do you even scout bro”
“Why would you waste your points”
Chucky!

Whats a biologist?!

Ain’t my tag!

I scout! This year it’s from the arm chair!

Again, ain’t my tag!

I knew I shoulda told the truth!

Vietnam vet!

Dads on the donor list for hearts and livers!
Agent orange has taken its toll!
He’s a blind quadriplegic!

lost his house and hasn’t eaten a clean meal in years!

Oh, and it took him 39 years to draw this tag!

Just looking for a great chance at a stud bull!

From what I know from the internet, the Utah Manti unit has been shot out for years. Hardly an elk left. These days the big bulls are coming out of Florida. A real cool guy posted one on this forum just last year from Florida. It was a monster. Probably should turn in the tag and hope for a better draw next year. ?

Yeah, I may be full of sarcasm! Laughing and a good time is priority #1 in my life!

But all sarcasm aside, dad did draw the tag with 2 points!

I think DWR felt bad for him because they muffed up the virtual line for the general season bull permits and he lost out! Waited in line for almost 4 hours. Got to the page to purchase a permit.......608 permits remaining.......clicked on permit to put in his cart......kicked him into a 320,000 virtual line!

HANG TIGHT! YOU’RE ALMOST THERE!!!

He waited 5 more hours and found out they were sold out! Talk about letting the wind outta the old man! I’ve never seen him so depressed in my life!

Then he gets the call. They left a message on his phone!
The message sat on his phone unread for a week because he just retired his flip phone and switched over to a smart phone???

So he asks me one day.......”Son, how do you get rid of this red dot next to the phone icon?”

I said ya got a message that you haven’t listened to! I hit speaker phone to play the message and it’s DWR telling him that he was next in line for a permit! LOL!

He didn’t wanna believe it at first!

Once it sunk in, the old man was dancing all over the driveway!

He’s lost 30 lbs since he found out in preparation for his hunt!

Gonna be a riot whether he can put one down or not!

Prolly for sure gonna be his last big elk hunt of his career!

Haha! I thought for sure you were yanking our chain, it wouldn't be the first time ;) Good luck and be sure to post up some pics! Be sure to use the photographer you used in Florida!

LOL!

sure will! I told another MMer that I’d post a write up and pics when all said and done!

Just trying to keep things going on this site as the hunts start to wind down!

I owe it to you guys on this site for putting up with me!

yeah, I’ll give that photographer a call on Monday! He can turn any rag horn into a 400 class pig!

Me and my brother both tagged out in the archery and rifle in the south end of this unit this year. Around Mary’s Nipple. Not sure if the elk have moved out but we have seen elk everywhere. Never saw any 400” bulls but some nice ones.

That tag very well could’ve been one we turned in. My cousin in laws dad drew, and then told us there was no way he was willing to do any hiking. We figured we could probably get him on a bull, but decided it would be better off going to someone that would actually want to put a little effort in.

Those bull will be long gone they move down toward i70

But since I’m sure you’re all wondering wth I’m doing standing in the brush in my long johns, I’ll just say that I was sitting there glassing and happened to look down at my hand. Saw a small nymph tick the size of a pin head. Flicked it off and went back to glassing. Then I got to thinking.....because I hate ticks! I looked down at my pants To examine them and there were hundreds of em crawling all over me! Yeah, I freaked out! Ripped the pants off and started burning every last one of em with a lighter! I may have glassed like that for over an hour before I dared to put the pants back on!

You can believe that story or make up your own brokeback mountain story!
I really don’t care! Never seen anything like it in my life! Hope I never have to repeat that either!

On the way home from that trip, we stopped in at a mexican restaurant and I had a large one drop off my hat onto my menu! I was dooooone after that!

Funny thing was, I get home and do the shower examination and find zero of them pests on me!

Mary's Nipple? I clearly remember looking around Mary's Nipple for a buck last year in a different unit. Are there two places in Utah with that same name!?!

He’s only looking for a 380 to 400 inch bull. Those are super easy with tons of scouting time so I’d imagine with limited time you’ll just need to do a little work like walk a hundred yards or so. ? 380-400 because it’s limited entry is what everyone imagines.

How much of a boob man do you have to be to name that mtn that?

Old Molly must have been a good time?

Hey BLooD!

Did She Sing You This Song?

LMMFAO!

LOL!

No, the wife stays outta that chore!

I wouldn’t wish that job on anyone......at least not until I showered?

But if you’re talking the waitress.......social distancing saved me from a tragic accident of being clubbed over the head and dragged back into the mens room for a tick examination amongst other things!!!

Not much else for them sheep herders to think about up there!

Might as well name a mountain after their fantasy woman.....or sheep!

I’ve been confused on this. People we have talked to have said Molly’s and Mary’s. onX has it as Mary’s. So I have no idea. Lol.
Most locals call it Molly's, but some locals insist its Mary's. And then you have some that just call it Mussinia Peak.

There is a Molly's nipple in NE Utah by vernal too. not sure if that's the official name but its what everyone calls it.

Good luck on your dads hunt. Did you get out last weekend and look around? Sounds like the weather is going to hit for your hunt. It may help move all the elk lower for you. Getting those old bulls down that are hiding up high.

Thanks Big John!

Yeah we got out and hit a few areas up north. Went for a 3 mile hike....a little much for my dad. He was hurting after that hike (knee). We saw one big framed bull a couple miles away through the spotter but I don’t think it is possible to hunt that area with my dad and his physical condition. I did see two giant bulls on the Nebo. While I was waiting for dad to catch up to me on atv, I glassed across the valley and saw them walking across an open face. Could see their frames from that distance but could not count points. I could however, make out the fourth and fifth on one of the bulls and he was big!

Anyone that has a Nebo tag, I’d be willing to share some details on where I saw them.

We then drove to the Southern end and looked around bull mountain and steves mountain. Saw two cows and a rag horn. Very dry in most places! Hoping the weather stirs them up a bit! Leaving tomorrow morning and staying until dad has had enough!
