First season

Geezus flounder, can't we just post a pic? Does it have to come with a comment?

DW..great job..a twofer. Love to see them on the back of a horse. My first 6-8 were all on my back. The I got a herd of horses.

I take a pile of pics, for when I'm too old to go I can look back on the memories. My favorites are always the pics of packin meat and horns on my horses as well. 27yrs ago 4 of us hiked up hill in 2ft of snow and promptly killed 4 elk, only 3 of us were able bodied enough to spend the next 3 days packin them out on our backs. After the first day my brother cut the wires loose in his recently broken jaw from riding bulls so he could eat real food and keep packin. Bought a horse and small mule that summer after that eye opening experience.

I took photos and kept a few teeth to remind me of the day. I am to old now and my health is getting a little sketchy. So all I have left are the memories and I have a bunch. My hunting partners have all passed so here I am. My last real elk hunt as I was walking off the mountain I felt a little moisture on my face knowing that it was over...darn sissy.

I got into some of the most bugling action and fighting I’ve ever witnessed opening morning. It was insane. I’ve been to AZ twice and it beat it hands down as far as action. Killed a six Pt early that morning. With one tag left to fill, the next theee days were quite and couldn’t turn up an elk. Last morning we glassed up several cows and a toad of a elk especially for CO. My buddy made a great shot on a 6x7 and we were done!

Congratulations

I hunted 1st season for the first time since my first year hunting CO in 1999. The earlier dates had me anticipating some bugling and although they weren't super frequent we heard enough to eventually hone in on this bull rutting 7 or 8 cows. My brother shot his cow on our side of the drainage 5 minutes after arriving at our glassing knob. A few cow calls in an attempt to calm things down must have worked because 30 seconds later his bugles broke the silence and he spent the next 10 minutes putting on a show I thought was reserved for archery and muzzleloader hunters. Our unit was either sex and we ended up going 2 for 6 with lots of opportunities on cows passed on in hopes of a bull but that's the way it goes. Great hunt overall and one I'd definitely do again, God willing!!
