104, 108, 121 Rifle Elk

Just found out I drew my first, and at 52 years old, likely my last Nevada elk tag. I am just starting my research and wondered if anyone has hunted this hunt and can help me with the logistics. Can anyone recommend a meat processer within the unit boundries? I would like to take my camp trailer, I am not sure that is practical on this hunt. What about motels near the hunt area? I will call a biologist for the area and see if he can steer me in the right direction, some of the answers to these questions might change once I chose a unit. I live 10 hours away so I will likely only have one scouting trip plus a few days before the season. I certainly can't cover it all in that time so I will need to commit to one or two spots. I would love to hear any stories and what I can expect. My biggest bull to date is 315 so my expectations are not super high, if I can top that I will be excited! Thanks in advance.

To answer a few of your questions.
1. meat processor- Anderson foodtown in Ely and there's a couple others in/ around Ely.Don't know about Elko.
2. Camp Trailer- Most of the county roads are usually in pretty good shape, you can pretty much take a trailer anywhere in those hunt units. Just stay close to the county roads. Trailer/ camping is probably the best option, because motels are in Elko,Wells,and Ely. Ely is the closest. You'll be driving a lot to get to your hunt areas if you stayed in a motel.
3. Elk- pretty much all of 121 have elk and the northern half of 104.Those are the areas I'm familiar with.

What are your season dates? I drew a cow elk tag for 108, 131, 132 for Sept 25-Oct 4. I've wanted to learn 131, 132 for deer and hunting any elk during the rut is great fun, so I applied for this tag and drew. I'll be able to tell you what I learn and see.

I'm not positive since I'm not looking at a unit map, but I'm pretty sure that Eureka is closer than Elmo, at least for 131, 132. Eureka has motels, coffee shops and gas.

The season is Nov 6th-20th Looks like I will start in 121. I think my home town for services will be Ely.

I would only do a few things different. I would stay in a wall tent with a stove. I took my trailer and struggled to keep it from freezing up. Get there several days early and stay for as long as it takes. I left for 4 days in the middle of the hunt. I saw elk every day and who knows what I might have found during the time I missed. Bring the best glass you can. Most the elk I found were over a mile away.

Reviving an old thread, but how did it go?

I have the same unit but early season so only a few weeks away. Went scouting last week and saw a small herd of cows and one bull way far off. A lot of the area I looked at online was all dried up and dead so that was a little discouraging.

121 has the most elk, but don’t rule out 104 and 108. I saw some great bulls in those units this summer.

Thanks! My lady has an antelope tag in 144 so I’m hoping we can get that filled early next week and spend a few hours or a day driving through 108 to check it out.

Hey there, I drew my first bull tag this year in the same units. I have been in 108 before over by the baldy mtn mine. Was wondering if you have any suggestions for 121? would love some feedback on where to start, thank you.

When does your season start? I’m heading out tomorrow for party cow. I saw one bull scouting last month but gunna target some different areas for the hunt.

We found elk over the entirety of 121. In the Egans, Cherry Creek range, the Blacks. We found them high and in the valleys. If it’s a rifle tag, the bulls will be very spread out and by themselves or in small bachelor herds. Get to good vantage points and be ready to glass at first light and at last light. I would set aside at least a week to cover lots of ground to turn up a big one if your trophy hunting.

I've read a little about the cherry creek range, I will definitely look into the other ranges. I really appreciate the information. For my first elk i would just love to get a 6x6, if i can find a trophy then that's awesome, but not mandatory. Probably going to take a scouting trip in a few weeks so ill let you know how that goes.

My 2014 bull

Son had a this tag in 2018 too, saw some elk and he passed on some but nothing that year. Cherry Cr was the hot spot that year for elk and numbers of hunters.

That’s a beaut congrats!

Can confirm Cherry Creek is still jam packed full of hunters. Didn’t see a ton of elk out there but didn’t spend much time either. Drove past at least 10 camps and decided to head elsewhere.
