I'm finally out of the running! Maybe a sheep tag this year?
If you draw a sheep tag at least you will know who to call ... haha .
Going good, can’t complain but it wouldn’t matter anyway. Drew that Colorado Tag 3rd season. So we will see how that goes. How is everything in your neck of the woods? Draw anything so far?ME!!!!
Brad, how are things in Tehachapi?
Brooks, how was the venison? lol Uncle Paul
Unit 33Did you draw 33 or 70?
Nothing. Buying a deer voucher for 70.
When is the CA draw? PC
Dandy Buck!!Just going to stick with units that take a point or two as usual View attachment 7830
Draw has to be held 10 days from completion of app deadline. So, by June 12th.
Yeah ColoradoBrad, what did you draw in CO?
I hope so!
Good luck, I hope you get it this year! That's a nice buck. I always put in for G3. I have max points. I think it's going to be so cool hunting a place where there'll be tons of deer to look at. Yes, it's not what it once was...cliche. I'll be happy with a fun hunt and I hope I draw.
Good luck getting that bull tag!Great buck!!
I won’t be hunting G3 but plan to be hunting a big tule bull!??????
Best of luck to you!Me and my son are going to draw G3 this year, no doubt.....we need a tag desperately....LOL
Little tough, but made excellent grind!ME!!!!

Best of luck to him, pretty cool to be able to hunt both in a lifetime for sure!My son has max points, so G-3 is the goal. He drew J-12 (Round Valley) as a youngster, so drawing this one would be quite an accomplishment. I drew G-3 several years ago, fun hunt.
Well I have max pts for sheep, but didn't put in for the whites. If every top point holder who applied for G3 applied again and nobody else jumps in, it's 274 applicants for 23 tags, roughly 1:12. Not like a sure thing. I'm hoping not too many more max sheep points applications pile on the White Mountains for odds. 123 applicants for 5 tags is almost 1:25 for a desert sheep tag I have two good deer hunts (NV and CO) so I'm pulling for sheep. Someone here should get my G3 tag this year
What did you go for ?Well I have max pts for sheep, but didn't put in for the whites.
+1 I leave those whites for the young guysI think I put in for 503 Clark and kingston
That might be true. Easier to get away that time of the year if I get luck.+1 I leave those whites for the young guys
Odds with max pts.white mtn is 1/123, 2nd tag 1/122, ect. Your odds are not 123 divided by 5.If every top point holder who applied for G3 applied again and nobody else jumps in, it's 274 applicants for 23 tags, roughly 1:12. Not like a sure thing. I have max pts as well. 5 max pts tags.if 123 max guys put in your odds are 1 in 123 on the first tag, 1 in 122 on the 2nd tag, ect. Less than 1%.So November, what odds are you coming up with for him drawing a white mtn tag?
Nope, the computer assigns random numbers to the max point guys, you need to get #1 thru 5 assigned.if 125 max point guys are in the pool your odds of getting 5 or lower are less then 1%.Huh? A person is out once they draw. I think you are thinking about odds to draw multiple prizes in a raffle. Dividing the number of tags by the number in is a pretty close approximation for the way this draw works with the numbers here.
The computer assigns #1 out of 123 guys, then #2 out of 122 guys and so on to 5. If you have max pts now and they issue 5 max pt tags every year, assuming 123 guys put in you would draw in the next 23 years. I have put in for whites for 37 years, took me 25 years for a tule bull tag. Nm, az,,nv. have better odds as an nr vs. Ca. As a resident.Huh? A person is out once they draw. dial up the go hunt app and put in max points, white mtns. they will give you your odds. The super lotto odds are 1/80,000,000. many think a second tickets cuts the odds in half, wrong. the 2nd ticket odds are 1/79,999,999. And i know superlotto is a slightly different draw setup then sheep.November, I think you need to go back to stats class.

Good problem to have! Wish I could say the same.No G3 for me this year. Did points only all the way around. Have 2 sheep hunts that will take all my vacation.

You are correct with it being like zero points if you are not maxed,California has the worst draw system in all the states and everyone with max points all try and draw the so called premier Ca hunts, guys still cant get it through their heads that even with max points the odds are not good for these units with such low quotas.California has to do something with the system because they have so many people the point system is unfair, say like a youth hunter applying for the first time at 12years old,the current system is a joke, if he or she were applying for say a Deer unit with only 5 tags, they would have to live to be older than Moses to ever even have a chance,it's a joke.California has to either raise some of these quotas in the premier unit's for all species or you are better off finding a state where you can draw every year for deer and just know you are going and be done with it.As far as the sheep tag or some of the Elk,ya maybe make those a once in a lifetime hunt. But these so called once in a lifetime deer zones give me a break!!!!
..I have been saying the same thing for a while now that California’s draw system is the worst and most pointless system that rewards no one for dedication, personally believe it should modified to be like a Arizona or Nevada draw
Blessed because@60, my wife and I did the JMt. So not concerned about a white mt. Hunt. Now, in 10 years@71, wearing depends I might hire a guide.lol+1 I leave those whites for the young guys
That’s a pretty good plan right there5÷123 X 100 = 4.07%. it is a guess that the max applicants don't move around. The White Mountains isn't for everyone, but that's better draw odds as a max points resident than probably the sum total of applying as a non-resident in all other states with desert sheep available and 18 points on every state that has points. I'm at mid 20's in NV and AZ. I'm thinking CA gives me my best shot unless I move to AZ, buy the lifetime license then move to NV
From 2018 to 2019 150 max guys either tipped over or moved. So stay vertical and active. That’s a pretty good plan right there
Same as a newb with zero points. Slim to nun and the flying nun just left.what are my odds of drawing the sheep raffle tag with 10 entries???....that is the important question......

imo, the x9a tag total has to do with winterkill 2 years ago. not much winter range forage in x9a.I put in for Wyoming. On their webpage it states that they do a 50/50 draw 50 point, 50 random, because they want every hunter to feel that they have a chance. Unlike CA, which doesnt care really. I'm sure the points system here was designed to make hunters give up.
The tag allotments in CA make no sense either. there are more deer in X9a than there are in D13 yet there is a huge disparity in the tag allotments.
Did they change this year? I wrote to them to find out what happened.Wyoming is 75% preference-25% random.
Still better than CA’s 90/10
When I first applied in 2018 I thought it said it was 50/50 on their website? Anyway, I see where its 75/25 now, however, I still wrote them for clarification. No, it’s been 75/25 since they started point system. Utah is 50/50
imho, The average age of a hunter is 57, we are literraly a dying sport. Very few adults wake up and decide to take up the sport, you have had to been exposed to it at an early age from a relative that had access to decent hunting land. heck, i grew up hunting small game in my backyard/woods. Now, hornporn has driven land prices thru the roof. Or in Ca. they just dont care about increasing herd size. Heck the state i grew up in has 900,000 licensed hunters vs. ca. at 250,000? Relative to population ca. would have 6.3 million hunters but the opportunity isnt there. the day before the deer opener the state i grew up in would shut all schools down, brown fever. western state point systems will flip as the old guys start tipping over. if you are in yours 20's, 30's, play the points game and it will pay off. When I first applied in 2018 I thought it said it was 50/50 on their website? On a side note, I wonder how much revenue States that sell points, like WY, are making off hunters?
Personally, I hate points systems and think it ultimately causes a division among hunters, especially in CA. It may be one of the reasons why we are losing so many hunters here.

We've been losing licensed hunters for several years now in CA. It will be interestig to see if it the same or not this year. It's not dying. Every state so far this year has seen an increase in applications, and that's compared to last year which was an increase when compared to the year before I don't think California will be any different.
Why are we oftened referred to as , "Sportsmen?" There was even a TV show on ABC back when I was a kid called, "TheAmerican Sportsman." All about hunting and fishing.I have a hard time thinking as hunting as a sport....I don't know what it is called but I don't think it does "hunters" justice by calling it sport.
And you killed a smoker ram! Can’t wait to see it finished. Yeah I almost feel like nr have better draw odds.I drew a desert bighorn tag last year as a nonresident I did have max points still trying to figure out if I had better odds or worse odds than a resident and there was a second nonresident who also drew a sheep tag from what I was told I'm not sure it's fair to the residents of California with so few tags but i can't complain I agree the California draw system is terrible
