I drew a Fish Lake early rifle elk permit. Those of you that have hunted the unit is private property a concern? I know the Johnsons Ranch is private. Is there other cwmu’s to be concerned about? If so are they well marked? Where would be a good place to purchase a map of the unit or would On-X be best?

On X works great. Bar J , Grazing Pasture and Bobbe hole are all Cwmu’s on the unit. They all open the gates pretty much and let you guys run the elk in. The elk know where their fences are for sure.

That doesn’t sound encouraging, so basically hunt the cwmu borders and hope for the best.

Don’t be concerned about the CWMU’s. That’s a huge unit and there are plenty of elk throughout. You won’t need ON-X for boundary’s but I would get it anyway, it’s pretty useful to find places that you wouldn’t otherwise.

Go up UM creek and shoot a bull. Long way from the CWMUs. It’s a big unit and you’ll find elk throughout

Plenty of elk outside those areas. It’s a decent tag forsure. You shouldn’t have any problem finding bulls on the early hunt. Beautiful country.

Heck of a bull. I've been putting in for archery. Didn't quite have your luck. But my brother does have early rifle this year.

If you got time to scout. 1000 lakes side by the white cliffs hold some mature bulls. But it is thick!
